The past 6 months have been definitely intense.

I studied really hard to perform well in my exams. That’s why during the whole school year I decided to write down my notes digitally, using only emacs and orgmode. I wanted to explore the capabilities of such a nerdy/old-school tool, and it has been a lot of fun! I will list some pros and cons of putting so much effort in note-taking:

Pros and Cons⌗

  • PROS
    • You are forced to revise your hand-written notes after class;
    • You are forced to understand things more deeply if you want to write sensed stuff about such technical topics;
    • Studying on your notes is about 30-40% more efficient then studying on lecture slides;
    • The material that you produce can be easily used by others;
  • CONS
    • Time consuming (I mean, really time consuming);
    • Sometimes you lose along the way some details from lecture slides;

Summary⌗

After all, I had a lot of fun and the process helped me a lot. That being said, i probably will not do the same thing this semester. The courses that I am attending now are really hands-on, so summaries of classes will not be that usefull. I am expecting to graduate within september, so I’ll have to optimize my time and resources.
